Founder

Hi, I’m Johanna Scoglio (she/her), MBA, M.Ed.—a lifelong educator turned mental health advocate, writer, and peer supporter.

For more than twenty-five years, I have lived alongside an eating disorder. What once felt like endless waves of struggle has slowly become a journey of learning—to stay in the water, to soften toward myself, and to find glimmers of courage, hope, and freedom even in the undertow. Along the way, I've learned to let my values be my compass, guiding me toward a life rooted in authenticity, compassion, and peace.

Out of my journey grew the vision for A Dragonfly’s Dream—a safe harbor where people walking the long road of eating disorders can come together in community, compassion, and courage. This space honors each person's pace, supports connection with others who understand, and encourages gentle steps toward growth and self-discovery. It is rooted in harm reduction, mind-body connection, and creative expression, reflecting our commitment to living these values every day.

Alongside creating A Dragonfly’s Dream, I have volunteered with many eating disorder nonprofits, and am currently organizing a Rally for Recovery in Raleigh with The Alliance. I am completing training in Intentional Peer Support (to be finished in December 2025), am a Certified Yoga Teacher (CYT-200), and am participating in the Center for Body Trust® Groundwork Training to deepen my understanding of weight-inclusive, harm reduction approaches to care. In January 2026, I will join the Board of my local National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) affiliate.

My forthcoming memoir, When the Water Still Holds Me: Letters Through the Tides of a Long-Term Eating Disorder, expands upon this work through story. Through honest, compassionate letters, it explores the lived experience of long-term eating disorders—offering insight, connection, and hope for anyone who has ever searched for light in the tides.

I live in North Carolina with my husband, four bonus college-age children, and our puppy, Copa. I love nature, time with family and friends, reading, swimming, card games, jigsaw puzzles, live music, and exploring our area.

A Dragonfly’s Dream is the haven I long searched for myself—and a tribute to my grandmother, who never stopped believing I'd find joy, love, and life beyond my eating disorder. My hope is that it becomes a home for you, too—wherever your journey flows.

With compassion, connection, & courage,

Johanna
